About

Accounting and advisory is more than just putting numbers in the correct column, it’s taking time to sit with clients and listen to their hopes, dreams and grievances. It’s about gaining an understanding of what keeps them awake at night and formulating a strategy to help. Ultimately, it’s about building trust: trust that clients know you can be counted on. Hi, I’m Wayne: a long-term director with Nexia Perth. Trustworthiness, straight-shooting and plain English communication are my hallmarks. I work to understand the personal and professional ambitions of clients to inform personalised business growth, wealth creation, retirement and succession planning strategies. Whilst I specialise in tax, my knowledge is broad and skillset diverse. I manage a sizeable client portfolio and am often utilised by clients in a strategic advisory capacity. This is where my commitment to listening comes to the fore. I am well prepared, extensively researched and thorough. I am committed to acting with integrity, honesty and sound ethics. I am transparent and do what I say I will do. I believe in knowledge sharing and my leadership style lends itself to respect, kindness and positive reinforcement. I believe this mantra is reflected in my contribution to Nexia Perth where in conjunction with the organisation’s leadership, a vibrant, high-performing and work-life balanced culture has been established. I am a people person and for clients and staff, their happiness and success matters to me. If you find my profile interesting, please connect and get in touch.

  • Accountant - Business Advisory and Tax Consulting at Deloitte
    1994 - 1999 · 5 yrs

My Deloitte journey began in Darwin where upon completing my Chartered Accounting qualification, I was transferred to the organisation’s Melbourne office working in the business advisory and tax consulting divisions. An organisation of considerable size and reach, Deloitte clients were (typically) well known, public companies. Assignments were significant with one large-scale tax due diligence project standing out because of my significant involvement, it’s complexity and overcoming ambitious project timelines. Role requirements included the provision of financial and non-financial advice, organisational and market analysis, projections and growth strategies, cash flow management strategies, compliance, reporting and risk management, complex tax strategies, multi-jurisdictional tax operations and other tax-related items.

  • Accountant - Business Services at R.V. Lowry & Associates
    1991 - 1994 · 3 yrs

On my return from Europe, I secured work in a Darwin-based sole practitioner business services and audit practice where I prepared literally hundreds of tax returns, financial statements and not for profit and local government audits. The role was demanding however, it offered me the opportunity to further hone my critical analysis skills and work on a wide array of projects and in a variety of industries. It was an invaluable experience. During this time and whilst working full time, I completed a Bachelor of Economics. This commitment stressed the importance of effective time management and establishing a healthy work-life balance. Today, I work with clients to enable their work-life balance.

  • Accountant - Tax Consulting at Arthur Andersen
    1988 - 1990 · 2 yrs

In my first accounting role, I joined Arthur Andersen where I was exposed to unsurpassed training methods and work ethos. In fact, Arthur Andersen’s ‘way of work’ is reflected in my continued methodical and thorough approach. Specialising in tax consulting, primary responsibilities included preparing tax and financial statements, liaising with the ATO and other regulatory bodies, preparing income tax returns and statements for audits, identifying tax-effective strategies, systems review and maintaining strong relationships with clients. Having secured work experience, now was the time to realise a personal bucket list goal. I left Arthur Andersen and for the next seven months, travelled extensively through Europe immersing myself in the continent’s rich history and diverse cultures.
