“A highlight emerges at the end of the piece - Roger Krebs as the Hermit with his wonderful, deep, room-filling voice.” These were the words of the St. Galler Tagblatt after Roger Krebs’ appearance as the Hermit in “Der Freischütz”. The description captures the character of the Swiss bass’ voice, one that continues to be mentioned in the press: as a “deep and rich bass” (Braunschweiger Zeitung), a “dark and rolling bass voice” (Münchner Merkur), “a thundering voice” (Liechtensteiner Vaterland), etc. Presence and aura are indeed very important to Roger Krebs. He is an artist who gives his relationship with the public absolute top priority. Even before the curtain rose, he considered not only how he would make the vibrations of his strong bass voice audible, but also how he could reach the heart and soul of his audience. Since his first singing lesson in Bern with Dennis Hall, Roger Krebs has worked on his spiritual presence. Later, the Swiss bass studied at the Mainz Conservatorium with Verena Keller and Sead Buljubasic. Master classes with Kurt Moll and Harald Stamm then gave him the finishing touches. 2001 saw Roger Krebs gain a place in the renowned master class Münchner Singschul at the Bayerische Theaterakademie. His first full-time engagement took him to the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in Schwerin, where he portrayed the roles of Rocco in “Fidelio”, Comtur in “Don Giovanni”, Timur in “Turandot”, Landgraf in “Tannhäuser”, and Fürst Gremin in “Eugene Onegin”, among others. Since then, Roger Krebs has appeared in numerous opera productions including Il Gran Sacerdote in “Nabucco” at Stadttheater Münster, the complete bass roles from “Tosca” in München, Zuniga in “Carmen” in Friedrichshafen and Emperor Altoum in Busoni’s “Turandot”. In 2013, Roger Krebs received media attention for his portrayal of Daland in “Der Fliegender Holländer”. “Roger Krebs was vocally and dramatically commanding”, the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung said in its review of the new product.....
