Roger Coombes

Retired local government officer. It was more interesting than it sounds.

About

I worked in local government for thirty years, doing a variety of demanding jobs in a range of settings - from pan-London organisations to a city council. I believe that politicians and state institutions should serve the interests of citizens and deliver good, efficient outcomes for them, especially the poorest & most vulnerable in society. Our current political class & many leaders of key public services seem woefully incapable of achieving this and apparently uninterested in doing so, preferring to prioritise their own interests and agendas (nothing new there). High time for a radical shake-up and some fresh political thinking on how to design & fund an efficient and effective welfare state that is relevant to the 21st century rather than 1945. Over to you Mr Starmer.
