Research group leader with around twenty years' experience in a variety of research organisations and universities in Germany, Luxembourg and the UK. Key topics are mixed realities (AR/VR), automotive user Interfaces, human-computer interaction, serious games and behaviour change technologies (mobility and energy). A major part of my work involves mixed reality systems and HCI for security-related topics, e.g. radiological incidents, terrorism and crime. This focusses on training and also managing the actual events. Other recent work is exploring behaviour change approaches to help ease energy poverty. A key motivating factor for me is to take basic research ideas from the lab to industry and society. Other associated work includes chairing and IFIP working group and participating ISO standards development. Leader of a research group focusing on Visaulisation and Interaction.
Lead researcher in the field of automotive and security areas with the ITIS department. Main areas of work include: persuasive systems, driving skills in semi-autonomous vehicles and mixed reality environments for national security areas (e.g. police, counter terrorism and the environment).
I am tasked with leading this working group and expanding its reach across research and industry. I previously held the post of Vice-Chair. This is an unpaid and voluntary role.
Editorial board member of Interacting with Computers. The journal is published by Oxford University Press. This is an unpaid/voluntary role.
Organising events, publications and networking.
Founded the IGNITE research team which attracted significant funding from the EC, FNR and Industry (total value around €18m). Areas of work included automotive, cybersecurity, digital story telling, airport security and mixed reality. The focus was predominantly on human-factors related elements.
