I have worked in the Information Systems and Technology arena since the early 1980s where I worked at Northern Telecom in their DMS division doing hardware and software engineering. I have worked with PCs and Apple Macs since the late 1980s, increasingly drawn into the networking and hardware support areas, with stints managing the service department at Best Buy, running Ashford Computers and even more than 7 years running my own consulting firm where I worked with clients as diverse as small independent businesses and county government offices. Specialties: Network Administration and security, project management, application hosting, remote desktop deployment, VMware and hardware management. I have extensive experience in wired and wireless LAN and WLAN networks, including a wireless mesh outdoor roaming network installed for a small city police department allowing continuous connectivity from laptops in their cruisers to the data center allowing them to run license plates and drivers license information from their car while in the field, utilizing VPN connections back to their domain controller. I ran a wireless ISP, Firedog Wireless, for three years before selling it, delivering services to approximately 50 business and residential clients that included FTP connectivity inbound through the ISP firewall for multiple consumers utilizing customized address translation and port forwarding. Hosted multiple websites, created content-managed websites using Joomla for several clients, created customized sites using HTML and ASP, and even one small e-commerce website. VMware experience includes running a webserver virtually, and more recently running multiple VM machines on my home PC to explore alternate operating systems. Additional interests encompass camping and hiking in the Appalachian mountains as well as playing music (blues and folks/rock are favorites but I love all music), repairing and building guitars, and trains big and small.
