Working as a member of the Technical Services team, provide day-to-day support of clients IT infrastructure. Duties include: - Preparation and deployment of new laptops, PCs, servers, switches, routers, NAS and backup appliances; - Troubleshoot email, SPAM, virus, application and hardware issues - Monitor and act upon system and network alerts - Deploy and upgrade server applications and Operating Systems (Backup Exec/System Recovery, Timberline, Trend, Keystone Complete, Microsoft patches and service packs)
The Manager, Data Centre Technicians is responsible for leading the Data Centre Technician teams located at all Q9 data centres company-wide. Data Centre Technicians perform all IT-related technical services that require physical access to the equipment, including server builds, rack mounting, communications cabling, and troubleshooting. They provide services on a 7x24x365 basis and are customer facing. - Build and operate a high quality, efficient and scalable data centre technician organization - Act as liaison to other Q9 departments to refine processes, plan and schedule work and analyze past issues - Drive departmental and cultural change - Manage departmental communications to keep teams advised of developments, execution on plans and other changes - Advocate for staff and pursue employee issues to improve the department and drive employee satisfaction - Manage employee performance and conduct performance reviews in conjunction with reporting DCT Team Leads - Manage escalations - Establish monitoring and reporting on Data Centre Technician metrics - Manage capacity for team against demand and future growth - Recruit and interview prospective Data Centre Technicians - Regularly reviews tickets and conducts periodic site inspections to ensure that work is done according to established Q9 standards - Develop and implement quality control procedures - Ensure adequate staffing in each data centre - Ensure staff receive onboarding, knowledge sharing and training as needed - Monitor workflow and pursues paths for improvements - As required, performs Data Centre Technician tasks and activities
Working out of one of Q9’s Data Centres or campus’ and reporting to the Manager, Data Centre Technicians, you would be responsible for leading/supervising a team of Data Centre Technicians building, deploying, inventorying, and repairing mission critical computing equipment – including server hardware, networking gear, and security devices. • Help to ensure staffing for 24*7 Operations. • Coordinating Data Centre Technician activities. • Maintain and promote an organized and clean work environment. • Participating in staffing decisions (i.e. recruitment, interviews, hiring, etc). • Completes the training of new DCT’s by overseeing the final phase (after initial training by the training dept. is completed) of their on-the-job shadowing. • Acting as consistent local point of presence for other Q9 departments. • Handling material orders for local site. • Ensuring DCT tools/supplies are adequate and placing orders when required • Provide input into improving DCT policy/procedures. • Assisting DCT’s in task prioritization and resource allocation (i.e. monitoring incoming work flow and ticket completion to ensure workload distribution is achievable). • Quality control. • Reporting/escalating site-specific issues/concerns especially identifying trends. • Reviewing all local DCT tickets and assisting in their completion where necessary. • Being responsible for assigning and documenting cross-connects and RLD’s • Writing and delivering annual performance reviews to members of your team.
Acted as the physical presence in the data centre, responding to any number of various requests from both customers and internal groups. Day to day activities involved the following: • Building computers from component parts, updating BIOS and other firmware. • Rack mounting servers and other computing equipment. • Attaching and labeling network, KVM, and power cables in accordance with network diagrams. • Troubleshooting, repairing and replacing servers and other computing equipment. • Receiving, unpacking, and inventorying equipment from vendors. • Rebooting, logging-on or performing other basic support services for our customers. • Logging and tracking activities in a ticketing system. • Speaking directly with customers or vendors on service issues.
