In addition to daily patient care, I currently function as relief charge nurse in the ICU in which one is responsible for the staffing and troubleshooting that may arise on a daily basis. I am a member of the Magnet Executive Council, guiding the path towards Magnet designation. I also publish and edit the Magnet Chronicles, our monthly pbulication tracking and presenting evidence on our Magnet journey. This is available region-wide on the Adventist Hospital intranet. I am the champion the AMT Bridle retention device which prevents dislodgment and accidental removal of the nasogastric tube, ensuring proper treatment and nutrition be administered at all times. I also champion the EZ-IO drill which easily inserts a large bore "needle" in the core of the bone (intra-osseous) with a minimal amount of pain. This provides for rapid access and medication administriation for the most critically ill. Lastly, I am currently working on implementation of an Intra-Abdominal Pressure Monitoring device. Such devices allow for rapid diagnostics of compartment syndrome and treatment of said syndrome to possibly avoid return to the operating theater. Early diagnostics and minimally invasive monitoring have bene proven to reduce length of stay and post-operative infection/complications.
