Librarian in the Cataloging and Metadata Management (CaMMS) Section at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), tasked with an extensive list of duties that support CaMMS, as well as work with other areas of the Library including the Collection Development and Acquisitions Section (CDAS), the History of Medicine Division (HMD), the Library Technology Services Section (LTSS)), the National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR), the Preservation and Collection Management (PCM) Section, the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) Section, and the Office of Computer and Communications Systems (OCCS). Bibliographic Record Creation: • Create original and copy-catalog monograph records of pamphlets for the General Collection (GENCOLL) from the “Collection of Publication Folders” and HMD collections in English and other languages including Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Irish, Danish, Dutch. • Create original and copy-catalog monograph records of English analytics. • Create original and copy-catalog BRF foreign language analytic records in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and other languages. Database Quality Assurance: • Process daily LC Name Authority File (LC NAF) loads and merge with the Voyager NAF. • Perform monthly NACO Submissions Reports processing, a list of LCCNs for NAF names. • Perform weekly CONSER and NonCONSER serial record processing. • Complete weekly MeSH URI problem reports, correcting the erroneous MeSH terms so that URI’s can be assigned to the MeSH terms for the eventual transfer to a linked data environment. • Digital Collections Quality Assurance review of the pre-ingested material destined for the NLM’s Digital Repository known as “Digital Collections.” This includes two separate functions: (1) QA review of pre-ingest digitized HMD print materials going into the Digital Repository, and (2) QA review of born-digital images in the GENCOLL ingested into the Digital Repository.
Cataloger Librarian Perform original and copy-cataloging of biomedical print and online monographs and historical ephemera. Duties include descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, classification, and complete authority work for an average of 700 bibliographic items per year primarily in English, as well as Spanish and Hebrew texts.
Supervise a staff of five in a highly visible public records center. Ran a test laboratory for "Work Expeditor," a document management and workflow software developed by Digital Equipment Corporation and subsequently retired by Compaq Computer Corporation. Trained sales staff on the use of Work Expeditor. Demonstrated Work Expeditor at conferences to the public and company personnel.
Duties: • Created a digital image database using ImageAXS and related scanning technologies of the Balch Institute's photographs and ephemera for access via the Balch Institute's Windows 95/NT network. • Created a Microsoft Access database of the Balch Institute's photo groups and associated queries, forms, reports, macros. • Wrote database support documentation.
