Robert Elman has enjoyed being on the leading edge of his industries. Upon graduating from Concordia University, Robert worked with major financial firms on Wall Street for five years. After ten years, eager to learn more about business, he joined the world’s third-largest distributor of high-end electronic components and studied solid-state physics and semiconductor technology at night. Robert became the second person hired by Intel at the pivotal moment when they launched the revolutionary microprocessor and distinguished himself managing their Canadian sales force for many years. Robert left Intel and became the founder and CEO of his own company, which grew to be the largest distributor of high-end storage management solutions in Canada. After 18 years, he sold the firm and returned to his first love, investing, with a major wealth management firm in 1997. Robert moved to Scotiabank in 2001 just as the tech bubble burst, which forged in him a conservative, discerning and forward-thinking discipline. Very active in the community as a leader, bridge-builder and advisor, Robert is Past President and a long-time board member of the Canadian Associates of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and serves on the university’s International Board of Governors in Israel. He also served for many years on the Board of the Canadian Jewish Congress, the oldest advocacy organization of its type in Canada. Along with the legendary Dr. Victor Goldbloom, Robert was instrumental in the rebirth of the Ukrainian Jewish Dialogue and remains in active service with them to forge connections between Montréal’s Ukrainian and Jewish communities. Robert has been a sub-advisor on policy for the Liberal Party of Quebec, is a former Chairman of Fine Arts for the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts, and is a very active supporter of Donald Berman UP House. Robert is privileged to share his life, values and travels with Joy, a very special lady who is a psychologist. He has two grown sons; Franklin Elman, the noted fashion designer who relaunched the iconic Trigère brand; and Anthony Elman, a visionary food industry executive who, along with his wife Jacqueline, has given Robert his beloved grandson Myles and granddaughter Charley. A former marathon runner, Robert now focuses on family, golf, art, community and collecting photography – pursuits that are easier on his knees. Robert splits his time between his residence in Montreal and his sanctuary in Ivry-sur-le-Lac. His life-long hero and inspiration is his brave, unstoppable and unflappable older sister, Sharon.
