Robert Bakker graduated with a Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant in March 2026 from Inholland University of Applied Sciences. He is active in ophthalmic care and combines a background in optometry with clinical medical practice within the hospital setting. In his current role, he is involved in independent patient care, assessment, follow-up, and treatment of patients with a range of ophthalmic conditions. His clinical work includes independent outpatient consultations, intravitreal injections, YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification, and minor procedures within ophthalmology. These procedures include chalazion incision and curettage, lacrimal irrigation (Anel), and probing of the lacrimal drainage system. His work takes place within the context of multidisciplinary ophthalmic care and in collaboration with ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals. Before completing his Physician Assistant training, Robert Bakker graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Optometry from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in 2017. In 2008, he obtained his qualification as an optician at ROC ASA SBBO in Amersfoort. In 2011, he completed his contact lens qualification at the Dutch Health Tech Academy (DHTA). This educational route forms the basis of his experience across multiple levels of eye care. He currently works at Spaarne Gasthuis in the Netherlands, where he collaborates with optometrists, orthoptists, technical ophthalmic assistants, physicians, and ophthalmologists. His professional focus is on patient care, visual function, ocular disease, and the delivery of ophthalmic treatment within daily clinical practice.

Robert Bakker is in opleiding tot physician assistant (PA) bij het Spaarne Gasthuis. Een PA is een medische zorgprofessional, die zelfstandig medische zorg biedt aan patiënten binnen een medisch specialisme. Daarnaast zet de PA zich in om de kwaliteit en effectiviteit van zorg te verhogen. "Ik ben laagdrempelig bereikbaar voor patiënten en naasten, maar ook voor mijn collega’s" Robert is van oorsprong optometrist: "Leuk werk, maar ik wilde meer dan alleen zien en vastleggen." Zelfs een kunsttraan bij droge ogen mocht hij niet voorschrijven. En daarom is Robert in 2023 gestart met de opleiding tot PA waarbij hij na het afstuderen minder complexe behandelingen zelf mag uitvoeren, betrokken is bij de eerste stappen van de diagnostiek en zelf medicijnen mag voorschrijven. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het zetten van injecties bij patiënten met maculadegeneratie (netvlies veroudering). Maar ook van laseren van nastaar en andere kleine ingrepen als toekomstig PA. Robert: "Het maakt het eenvoudiger om bijvoorbeeld gelijk te handelen in geval van medicatie starten of wijzigen. Bij een toenemende patiëntenstroom geeft een PA meerwaarde voor de patiënten. De patiënt kan sneller terecht en wordt sneller geholpen. Door taakverschuiving van de oogarts naar de PA kan men beter de groeiende vraag naar oogzorg aan. Het creëert meer ruimte voor oogartsen voor complexere casuïstiek. Zo komt 'de juiste zorg op de juiste plek'. Robert werkt sinds februari 2022 in het Spaarne Gasthuis.
Van De Broeders van Barmhartigheid Joannes de Deo in Haarlem tot Spaarne Gasthuis met vestigingen in vijf plaatsen. Van heden tot 1581. Het Spaarne Ziekenhuis en het Kennemer Gasthuis fuseerden op 22 maart 2015. De naam van het nieuwe ziekenhuis: het Spaarne Gasthuis. Een ziekenhuis met vestigingen in: Hillegom, Nieuw-Vennep, Velsen-Noord, Hoofddorp & Haarlem. Het Spaarne Gasthuis is een ziekenhuis-organisatie in het zuidwesten van de Nederlandse provincie Noord-Holland, gevormd door fusie van het Kennemer Gasthuis (KG) en het Spaarne Ziekenhuis. De bestuurlijke fusie vond plaats op 1 mei 2014, de juridische regeling ging in met ingang van 22 maart 2015. De beide ziekenhuisinstellingen werkten al samen in het Linnaeusinstituut. Het Spaarne Gasthuis is vooral bedoeld voor de bewoners van het verzorgingsgebied bestaande uit de de gemeenten uit Zuid-Kennemerland, het noorden van de Zuid-Hollandse Bollenstreek en omgeving Haarlemmermeer.
MEMBERS COUNCIL The Optometrists Association of the Netherlands (OVN) has a Members' Council consisting of (maximum) twenty active and involved members. The OVN optometrists for a Council of Members because it cannot exist without its members. Experiences, opinions and wishes of members about the practice of optometry are thus given a place in the course of the association. WHAT DOES THE COUNCIL DO? In addition to formal tasks - such as adopting the annual accounts and appointing members of the Board - the Council of Members discusses relevant topics with the Management Board. This allows the Council of Members to influence the policy of the association. The interests of the members are thus put first. The Council of Members meets three times a year. OVN members can be present as an observer. A member meeting is organized once a year to inform all members. ELECTIONS: Every three years, a Members Council election is organized and OVN members can stand for election. The last election was held in May 2022. The next election will take place in 2025.

The abbreviation ANVC means "Algemene Nederlandse Vereniging van Contactlensspecialisten". (Dutch Association for Contactlensspecialists) The Association was founded in March 1966 and represents the interests of the graduate contact lens specialist. She also plays a mediating and advisory role for the consumer with questions about contact lenses, their care and any problems with them. When you choose to wear contact lenses, the choice for the right specialist for the refractions and fitting measurements is very important. When you choose an ANVC contact lens specialist, you will at least be sure that he or she is graduated and got his or her professional diploma.
