The household goods moving industry has evolved quite a bit since I first started 30 years ago. It truly has become a global industry. We once dealt directly with human resource professionals mostly in our own home base of Southern Ontario. Now we work with both corporations and relocation management firms throughout the world as part of their global network of employee relocation suppliers. Our company Taylor International has evolved over this time as well. We have focused our firm's energy on employee relocation. Our in house move coordinators utilize custom information technology systems that we designed to steam line the move process. Our cross border service has been developed to be a leader in our industry. Our in house forwarding allows us to use and control the quality of our own global network of like minded partners. We recognize, however, that our firm is only as good as the people we send into our customers house. Human resource recruitment and training is probably the most important aspect of my job. I want our people to feel that a job at Taylor Moving is indeed a career and I am very proud of our staff of packers, helpers and drivers that we have developed over time.
As one of the two partners in the firm my role has expanded to over seeing our operations strategy and development, our IT infrastructure, our financial systems and in house billings, our claims settlement process and our private transferee sales team. I do still maintain my Account Executive duties to the corporations I continue to work with.
As an Account Executive, my role was to establish relationships with key Human Resource and/or Relocation Management professionals and to maintain the relationship on a day to day basis. Once these relationships were established, I needed to make sure that their unique relocation policy and requirements were communicated throughout our firm. I also acted as their key " go to" contact for any special needs or issues.
As a Private Shipper Moving Consultant, I would meet with clients that were paying for the move themselves. I would work with each client to assist in the planning and costing of their move and be their key contact person throughout.
After 4 years as a summer helper I was promoted to the position of van foreman. I was the lead man to load, drive and unload our customers household goods on a regional and local basis during the summer season.
Assisting the van foreman on a local basis during the busy summer season
