About

About I am a Senior Lecturer in Tourism & Marketing. I hold a degree BA (Hons) in Tourism Management (Sheffield Hallam University); a MA in Tourism & Social Responsibility (Exeter University), a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Cape Town (UCT), and a PhD in Marketing (UCT). My doctoral study was completed in November 2005 in the area of crime-safety and tourism consumer decision-making. My key areas of expertise are teaching the following subjects: research methods, consumer behaviour, destination marketing, principles of marketing, CSR/ESG, and digital marketing. I lead on a number of undergraduate modules and ensure that teaching is underpinned by appropriate research and scholarly activity. I also supervise undergraduate research projects and Master’s dissertations. With well-developed communication and interpersonal skills as well as having lived in several countries, I am effective when working with a diverse group of students from different cultural backgrounds. My research focuses on tourism-safety and consumer behaviour. Recently, I had the second edition of my book published George, R. (2025). Marketing Tourism and Hospitality: Concepts and Cases, 2e. London: Palgrave Macmillan. The book focuses on the marketing of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in tourism, particularly in an emerging market context. I have written 11 books, approximately 15 book chapters for edited books, and over 30 research papers in the field of tourism marketing.
