About

I’m an experienced British publisher, now freelance, with a reputation for creating high-quality, high-profile illustrated books. My books have covered the spectrum of subjects, but my particular expertise is food – I've produced some of the most acclaimed cookbooks of recent years, including Dishoom, POLPO, The Flavour Thesaurus, the River Cottage series, The Big Fat Duck Cookbook, The Complete Nose to Tail, and Every Grain of Rice. I also published, among many others, The Cloudspotter’s Guide by Gavin Pretor-Pinney; Alex’s Adventures in Numberland by Alex Bellos; England in Particular by Sue Clifford & Angela King; The Ivington Diaries by Monty Don; Wild Flowers by Sarah Raven; By My Hands by Florian Gadsby; 300,000 Kisses by Seán Hewitt and Luke Edward Hall; Country Church Monuments by CB Newham; Invitation to a Banquet by Fuchsia Dunlop; Nests by Susan Ogilvy; and The Penguin Modern Classics Book. My books have won the Waterstones Book of the Year, the Royal Society Science Book Prize, the James Beard Foundation Cookbook of the Year (twice), the Fortnum & Mason Awards (three times), the André Simon Award (six times) and the Guild of Food Writers Awards (eleven times). I take pride in both my collaborative approach and my attention to detail – with an unshakeable belief that readers can discern real care on even the most subtle, subliminal level. I always aim to establish strong editorial relationships with authors, a purpose which has been further honed by my own experience as a published author. I have long experience of managing creative teams of photographers, illustrators, designers and editors, and I’m equally comfortable providing direction and feedback on a visual or textual level. I’m proficient in InDesign, and can find my way round a page layout. I always endeavour to work closely with production to deliver the best package, often to a tight deadline.
