Cisterna di Latina, Latium, Italy
PhD candidate in Ancient History at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen. I am interested in the Late Antique to Early Medieval period (400 to 700 CE) and the identity constructions of the Germanic peoples in Western Europe. The focus of my PhD project is on the Anthologia Latina as a source for interpreting the socio-cultural history of the Vandals in North Africa.
The Kuwaiti-Italian mission in Failaka aims to investigate the Islamic site of al-Qurainiyah and its hinterland through surveys and excavations. The first six seasons of research at the site have identified the remains of an extensive Early and Late Islamic settlement with a complex and dynamic history, the last two years of excavations allowed us to uncover archaeological contexts that indicate a previous occupation, dating to the late Hellenistic period (second century BCE).
The Advanced Program of Ancient History and Art (APAHA)Tibur is a joint project of Columbia University and Sapienza University of Rome. The investigations conducted at Hadrian’s Villa have brought to light, in the area of the so-called Macchiozzo, a complex of residential buildings of the Hadrianic age. Virtually unknown to antiquarians and modern scholars, these buildings find close comparisons in Ostia in terms of both architectural typology and floor, wall and ceiling decoration. Among the most important results of recent excavation seasons, it is worth mentioning the conspicuous phase of late antique use of this sector of the villa.
