I serve as a Consultant with Nationwide’s Office of Corporate Citizenship, executing strategy and strengthening the company’s reputation as a trusted, community-centered organization while driving measurable impact. My work sits at the intersection of philanthropy, community partnership, executive engagement, and brand reputation—connecting business priorities with meaningful outcomes for communities we serve. Key responsibilities include: Cultivating and stewarding strategic partnerships with nonprofit, community, business, education, civic, and government leaders to advance shared impact goals. Supporting Nationwide Foundation’s strategic grantmaking process, including grant review, evaluation, and technical assistance; working collaboratively with Foundation leadership on data-driven philanthropic recommendations. Researching, designing, and assessing community initiatives to ensure strong alignment with Nationwide’s corporate citizenship and Foundation impact priorities. Engaging senior executives as community ambassadors by facilitating board service and leadership roles on nonprofit and civic committees. Supporting aligned nonprofit events and associate engagement opportunities that deepen Nationwide’s community presence and employee connection to purpose. Leading cross-functional taskforces focused on impact areas including children’s well-being, food security, crisis stabilization, housing, mental health, and economic empowerment. Representing Nationwide on local boards, councils, and community initiatives, contributing thought leadership that elevates brand credibility, community trust, and advances impact priorities. Partnering closely with internal business, communications, and public relations teams to amplify community impact through integrated internal and external storytelling.
Provide strategic consulting within impact sectors, including nonprofits, public sector entities, private and corporate foundations, to drive mission alignment and measurable impact. Key services include: Visioning, strategic planning, and mission alignment for impact and sustainability. Fund development strategies, revenue diversification, and leveraged funding. Grantmaking strategy along with portfolio development and alignment to maximize impact. Strategic program development, evaluation and integration of impact initiatives. Interim leadership and governance support.
Serve as a senior leader to advance United Way’s mission of improving lives by leading community mobilization and United Way resources for attainment of the organization’s Goals for 2020. Work with volunteers, community partners, government, labor, faith-based organizations, residents and staff to move toward the goal. Collaborates with the President and other senior leaders in visioning, identifying the strategies, and executing United Way’s intentional role in community-building activities. Leads efforts around public education, public policy, outcomes and evaluation, development of partnerships and community collaborations that are essential to measurable results. Accountable for a multi-million dollar budget and ensures donor’s contributions are invested in a manner that measurably improves community conditions and lives in the impact areas of Education, Income and Health.
Working in concert with community partners, United Way of Central Iowa focuses on 3 community impact areas to strategically address community issues in the areas of Education, Income and Health. In partnership with UWCI's Income Cabinet, I help lead-support-fund community efforts which address individual and family financial stability. Through a collective impact model - we are working to cut, by half, the number of low-income families who are financially unstable by the year 2020 - with a strategic focus on credentialing and upskilling. Work to align community resources, funding and strategies which will reduce poverty through education/training, affordable housing and financial literacy initiatives. Priorities include: 1) Create access to family sustaining employment. Young adults complete their high school diploma or GED and work toward attaining some post-secondary training. Help individuals in skill development, job placement and retention. 2) Individuals/families have access to a safety net of food, shelter, and other income/work supports. Providing basic needs supports for families so they can focus on the activities to become financially stable. 3) Individuals/families build financial stability. This means supporting programs that teach financial literacy and support savings. 4) Affordable Housing. Help families keep their existing housing and to attain affordable housing whether through rental or ownership. Serve as the Executive Director for IowaWORKS-Central Iowa which is a shared position and partnership between Des Moines Area Community College and Iowa Workforce Development. Responsible for regional workforce development activites in Central Iowa - including offices in Des Moines, Ames, Newton, Perry, Pella and Boone and statewide oversight for Iowa's National Career Readiness Certificate program. Administer the planning, design, development and operation for all Iowa Employment Solutions (IES) and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) programs - including Workforce Investment Act, Employment Services, Unemploymnet Insurance, Veteran's, PROMISE JOBS, Project Employment, Re-Employment Services, Re-Employment Eligibility & Assessment and Iowa's NCRC. Oversee and provide leadership for the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of department programs, operational objectives, public relations and outreach activities and work with the Regional Workforce Investment Board (RWIB) to ensure workforce system services and performance measures are achieved. Supervise 106 IES and IWD department staff - including 6 management level staff; administer personnel policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements and the EEO/AA plan. Coordinate and oversee fiscal/budget planning and monitor/approve on-going expenditures. Establish and maintain contacts with community based organizations and businesses. Develop partnerships with businesses to facilitate the placement of clients. Research and plan programs to meet current and future community employment needs.
Oversee field operations for the Division of Workforce Center Administration. My responsibilities include oversight of 55 field offices that deliver a full scope of employment and training services with an operating budget of over 35 million dollars. I also have direct responsibility for several specific progam initiatives including Iowa's National Career Readiness Certificate, Offender Re-Entry, ReEmployment Services, ReEmployment Eligibilty Assessment and Iowa's Career Access Point Program.
