๐ Where do real ideas come from? Not from meetings. But from the places where You taste wind, feel sand under Your feet, and grip the boom with Your own hands. I was 20. Lived on Fuerteventura, Sylt, Maui. I designed my own sails, sewed them at night, tested them during the day. Not out of need. Out of drive. Out of passion. I wanted to win the World Cup. And then came Bjรธrn. A 14-year-old Dane with fire in his eyes. I designed his first sails. Four years later he stood on the podium - World Champion. 42 times. Guinness Record. I gave him wings that held. And often watched him fly. And Peter Brockhaus? My mentor. The creator who brought windsurfing to Europe. He founded Mistral and F2, the two most successful brands. He discovered me,as an athlete and a DesignThinker. Without him, Iโd never have learned how motion becomes meaning. What did I take with me? That flow isnโt a state. Flow is a decision. A feeling. An attitude. A direction. "Iโve worked with 250+ brands. From Puma to Adidas, Salewa to Red Bull. I co-founded the design agency Pascher+Heinz 29 years ago, together with Bernhard Heinz. Today, I proudly hand it over to the next generation. As Head Judge of the ISPO BrandNew Awards, Iโve helped guide 1,200+ startups into the world of sports. And as a long-time Judge at the German Design Award, Iโve honored the best in product and brand design - with an eye that senses form and function. Iโve had the honor to work with thought leaders like Jake Burton, Neil Pryde, Felix Baumgartner, Steve Wozniak, David Carson, and Erik Spiekermann. What connects us? Flow. Trust. Vision. ๐ ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐บ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐? ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐.๐๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ป.๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด. Wood. The third material in the bicycle. After steel and carbon, esel speaks in a third voice. Quieter. More grounded. More human.โจ In January 2026 I joined esel as Design Board Member and Shareholder. With Christoph Fraundorfer and the esel team of experts, we are not building another bike in Traun, Upper Austria.โจ Together we are shaping a different feel of riding.โจ My role: โจ Brand positioning, design clarity, and the path from product to category. From the edge of the field: like a surf coach reading swell, wind, and shore.โจ In spring 2026 the eUrban esel won the German Design Award โ Winner 2026. โจRiding it, I feel the smooth dynamics I know from my high-performance wooden snowboards or skateboards.โจ We shape wood. We shape design. We shape movement.โจ Ride Your Nature.
Ocean. Our teacher we sometimes forget. While most swimwear brands chase silhouettes, MyMarini follows tides. Born from Mareen's longing for the sea, the brand designs ethical oceanwear with love and soul. For people. For oceans. For both together. That's why I joined MyMarini's Advisory Board. Mareen, founder and Creator, invited me to bring perspective and design clarity into the next chapter of her brand. From a longstanding swimwear label into a holistic Oceanwear universe. My role: To inspire CEO Eva Heinemann on Ocean Thinking, brand positioning, and the evolution from product brand into category-defining presence. Not from inside, but from the edge of the shore, like a wave reader who senses the swell before it arrives. Together with Mareen and her team, MyMarini is shaping a new kind of brand voice: * From swimwear to Oceanwear * From product to presence * From beauty to belief As a BrandSurfer, I see ocean fabric as more than material on skin. It is a quiet conversation between body, water, and conscience. Or, as Mareen herself puts it: "If we imagine it, we will create it." Brave words. And a wave worth riding together. Be like Ocean.
Some places are not built. They emerge. From silence. From longing. From a need to slow down and create something that feels like breath. ARVE is my personal answer to the question: Can a space be quiet enough to hear yourself again? It stands on 1,800 meters of Turracher Hรถhe, surrounded by pine, wind, and light. I didnโt build it to impress. I built it to arrive. To shape warmth from untreated wood. To design calm. To host not like a hotel, but like someone who means it. ARVE isnโt a business. Sheโs a presence. And she continues to teach me what it means to be a good host.
Sleep. The silent superpower that powers everything else. While many still treat sleep as downtime, neuroscience tells a different story. Sleep is not the opposite of productivity. It is its deepest source. It strengthens memory. Restores the body. Inspires the mind. And yes โ it grows muscles. Every athlete knows: progress doesnโt happen during training โ it happens in recovery. Thatโs why I was drawn to Schlafgut โ a company with over 100 years of legacy, now awakening with the spirit of a startup. Max Mรถdinger, great-grandson of founder Adam Matheis, invited me to contribute perspective and design clarity to this transformation. My role: To advise the leadership on brand positioning, strategic identity, and the evolution toward a holistic sleep brand. Not from inside โ but from the edge of the field, like a surf coach who reads the waves. Together with Max and a new generation of design experts โ including Christian Zanzotti โ Schlafgut is shaping a fresh narrative: โข From product to purpose โข From utility to ritual โข From legacy to future relevance As a SportsDesignThinker, I see sleep as more than a habit โ itโs an enabler of energy, creativity, and deep physical flow. Or, as Prof. Matthew Walker, neuroscientist and author of Why We Sleep, puts it: โThe best bridge between despair and hope is a good nightโs sleep.โ Wise words. And a challenge worth riding.
From Founder to Coach. From Agency to Co-Creative Garden. After 29 years, I stepped off the center stage โ and moved to the edge of the playing field. Not to disappear. But to nurture. As Co-Founder & Mentor, I now support our team from the sidelines โ like a surf coach who knows the swell, the wind, and the shoreline. Johannes Schรผรler and Johannes Maur, who joined the agency over 15 years ago, now lead the agency with vision, responsibility and creative energy. Together with our brilliant team, theyโve elevated SportsDesignThinking to a new level and opened the gates to a new era of collaboration. Pascher+Heinz has evolved from a classic design agency into a Co-Creative Garden โ a living system where ideas grow wild yet focused, where strategy and spontaneity cross-pollinate โ and where coaching replaces control. This transformation is rooted in three guiding principles: โข Strategy โ Our Game Plan sets the course โข Identity โ Our Guidelines define your brand DNA โข Experience โ Our Toolkits activate the vision We cultivate brands like gardeners. With patience, precision and care. We water ambition, prune complexity and harvest meaning. Our refined methodology โ SportsDesignThinking โ combines empathy, aesthetics, and performance. It transforms athletic brands into belief systems โ and creative teams into impact-makers. A glimpse of the future: For the BMW Ryder Cup 2023 our team created the โDrive to Gloryโ campaign โ merging classical sculpture with modern sports in a AI-generated concept, including 3D modeling and physical prototypes. We also introduced two powerful creative realms: โข Ravagee โ for bold, untamed concept thinking โข Spirit โ for depth, intuition, and cultural resonance Today, we act as Brand Coaches โ partnering with startups, pioneers and global players. We donโt just design brands. We grow them. And from the back of the garden, I keep an eye on the sun, the soil and the storm. Letโs ride the next wave.
Munich Momentum. From Vision to Impact. After the Salzburg sunrise, we moved our headquarters to Munich โ and stepped onto a bigger stage. We grew from a design duo into a team of 35 creatives, strategists, and storytellers โ united by the mission to shape athletic brands with soul and precision. We built a new studio, our creative stadium. We shaped and sharpened our method: SportsDesignThinking โ combining empathy, aesthetics, and performance. We curated global stages like the Volvo SportsDesign Forum, welcoming thought leaders like Steve Wozniak, Jake Burton, Moni Wolf, Erik Spiekermann and more โ to explore topics from Women Specific Design to Personal Design. Our client roster reflected our evolving strength: โข ISPO โ with BrandNew, TexTrends & ISPO Award โข Dynafit โ from full relaunch to ski designs โข Salewa & LaMunt โ launching future-ready brands โข Adidas โ campaigns across 7 sports โข Ortovox, Weleda, Fischer Ski, Atomic, Volvo, BMW We turned ideas into movements. Brands into belief systems. And our team into a tribe. This was our Munich Momentum. And the core of the Pascher+Heinz legacy.
Our agency journey began in a sunlit penthouse loft above Salzburg. Overlooking the Untersberg and and dreaming beyond what the sports industry imagined at the time. We created FLOW, the worldโs first Soft Step-in Binding System, blending comfort, innovation and soul. Within three years, FLOW became the global market leader. With new patents, intuitive usability, aerospace-inspired design and a barefoot feeling. For the Flow World Premiere, we staged what became legend: Felix Baumgartner and Hannes Arch jumped out of a Red Bull helicopter over Innsbruck, landing on snowboards in front of 200 snowboarding thought leaders in the Axamer Lizum. We followed with the FLOW Invitational Series, a live quarterpipe competition on the ISPO grounds, where the worldโs best riders flew high between the trade fair halls. Honda and Nokia joined as sponsors. TV channels went live. Beyond FLOW, we also helped launch Oxygen inline skates and Feline โ the first women-specific inline brand worldwide. Everything we did in those years had one purpose: To turn brands into bold messages and messages into stories where you can feel the Flow.
