Hi there! I’m Reina, a software engineer and classical violinist. I grew up as a third culture kid and it taught me to appreciate the diversity of our lives. It gave me a good sense of adaptation to whatever comes my way. On a side note, I love talking about good food and culture! As a lover of languages, the arts, and cutting edge technology, I’m happily pursuing my dream of integrating my passions together.

The New England Conservatory celebrated its 150th year in the 2017-2018 season. As part of the year-long celebration, the Entrepreneurial Musicianship department, in collaboration with College Artistic Manager Hank Mou, is engaging students across the school in fellowships designed to both benefit the school community and help the fellow build their professional skill and knowledge. In an effort to more broadly engage the entire student body in the numerous co-curricular activities that NEC offers (through concerts, masterclasses, EM workshops, OSS offerings…the list continues), I was selected to be a student engagement fellow. I worked with Rachel Roberts, Annie Phillips, and Hank Mou to identify learning goals and research questions, as well as learn a crash-course in interview-based research. I hosted focus-group conversations among my peers and distilled the focus group findings into action-based insights. As a final project, I outlined an action plan and developed a prototype test of one action item. The tasks included: - Regular meetings with EM Assistant Director Annie Phillips, plus meetings with Rachel Roberts, Hank Mou, and other parties at NEC who influenced the content and goals of focus group research - Sourced student participants for 2-3 focus group meetings and managed all logistics including scheduling, catering, etc. - Lead focus groups and ensured proper data capture - Distilled findings into insights, with oversight by Annie Phillips - Wrote a detailed project plan for one suggested solution, and prototyped/tested the solution by the end of the 2017-18 school year
