Internet Society is an independent international not-for-profit organisation founded by the technical founders of the Internet. The association has 104,000 members in 125 countries worldwide and was founded in 1992 to be at the forefront of Internet-related standards, education and policy-making worldwide. The Dutch Chapter has more than 1300 stakeholder parties and individual members. Internet Society (ISOC) is officially recognized as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in operational relations by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization). This recognition and contacts help ISOC to achieve its goals of global access to information for all. In 2021 I was effectively elected by 500+ members as the first black President in the 25 years of existence of the Dutch Chapter of Internet Society (ISOC NL).
