    • Senior Health Program Specialist
      Dec 2022 - Feb 2025 · 2 yrs 3 mos

I am a Health Program Specialist II within the Chronic Disease Control Branch (CDCB) at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), I am the lead of the Advancing Equity in Chronic Disease (AECD) team. My role requires that I actively seek health equity-related federal grants, lead the process of completing the grant application, and seek possible collaborations with local public health systems. Recently I led the AECD team in successfully applying for a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) grant opportunity to expand the national approach to chronic disease education and awareness. I led the team by organizing a brainstorming session to determine the chronic disease of focus (Parkinson’s Disease), created an application process timeline, coordinated with a colleague to draft the application, regularly collaborated with CDPH’s Chronic Disease Surveillance & Research branch to access and review Parkinson’s data housed within the Parkinson’s data registry, communicated application status with executive management, coordinated with the AECD contracts manager to ensure that funding was available to support the interventions outlined within the program Work Plan, and coordinated with the Business Operations Section Chief to submit the finalized deliverables to the CDC prior to the grant application due date. In addition to applying for federal grants, I also coordinate with other branch programs (i.e., Alzheimer’s Disease Program, Diabetes Prevention Program) to identify challenges that their target populations face, how these challenges align with branch priorities, and determine what our branch wants equitable healthcare and health to look like within the communities that the Local Health Departments and contracted partners serve. This is an ongoing effort that requires cross-program collaboration and coordination to assist me with assessing the equity-related efforts being promoted by branch programs.

    • Inquiries Specialist
      Jun 2022 - Dec 2022 · 7 mos

As a Health Program Specialist II within the Office of Guidance and Policy (G&P) at CDPH, I utilized the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Relationship Management (CRM) portal to process, respond to, and track infectious disease-related inquiries. Prior to the implementation of the CRM, inquires were received and responded to via an Outlook inbox. However, the CRM was created so that the G&P team could have one central location to receive, track, refer out (if necessary), and respond to inquiries. Also, the CRM allowed the ability to send pre-generated responses and produce custom analytics (via the CRM dashboards & reports) to provide data such as common topics (e.g., high-risk settings) and identify repeat inquirers. Since inquiry information is used to inform the creation and updating of CDPH guidance, it was imperative that the CRM portal could capture inquiry analytics. Therefore, I met often with the contractor (Crowe LLP) that oversees the portal to discuss MS Dynamics administration, automation, configuration (including the User Interface), form development and client interface (the customer-facing inquiry submission portal), security, reporting, dashboards, data management, custom development, web resources, data integrations, CRM solution file management, and updating system requirements to align with the ever-changing program demands. I often updated executive management with any concerns that I had pertaining to CRM portal requirements, contractor invoice summaries, tasks completed in adherence to the executed Work Order Authorization, the need to revise the portal’s interface to align with new inquiry categories and troubleshooting efforts that I had conducted to remedy any identified issues. In addition to managing the CRM portal and responding to inquiries, I was the web content editor for my team. Within this role, I was responsible for ensuring that urgent health alerts were posted to the California Health Alert Network (linked) webpage.
