I am Rachel, a Final Year Nursing Student with a Minor in Foreign Languages (Korean). 🏥 Gaining experience in clinical postings, I have supported patients across a range of healthcare settings, building empathy, adaptability, and clinical confidence. 💪🏼 Beyond the clinical field, I have served as Publicity Head of the Health Sciences (HS) Society and a DrugFreeSG Champion, where I led outreach initiatives and created engaging content. Through these leadership opportunities, I have acquired strong communication skills and facilitate to bring out effective teamwork. 🎨 With a deep passion for the arts, I have self-learnt video editing and developed strong skills in content creation. I also enjoy expressing myself through dance, and have actively taken part in countless performances and competitions. 📈 I am adaptable and excel in problem-solving. Ward 54A (Long-stay Intellectual Disability Ward) | 2-week mental health posting During my posting at IMH, I had the opportunity to care for patients in a psychiatric inpatient setting. I gained valuable experience in assessing mental health conditions, supporting patients with aggression or self-harm risks, and facilitating structured therapeutic activities. The posting deepened my understanding of psychiatric care, strengthened my ability to communicate with empathy, and taught me to remain calm and professional during psychiatric emergencies. Ward 11 (Paediatric Surgical Ward) | 2-week paediatric posting During my paediatric clinical posting, I had the opportunity to care for young patients and support their families in both acute and routine care settings. I assisted in various child-focused assessments, daily care procedures, and clinical activities, developing a deeper understanding of age-appropriate communication, comfort measures, and infection control. This experience strengthened my confidence in working with paediatric patients and taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and teamwork in delivering child-centred care. Ward 6A (Surgical Ward) | 1 month Surgical Posting During my medical-surgical posting at NUH, I cared for adult patients across various conditions and levels of acuity. I performed physical assessments, assisted with pre- and post-operative care, and gained proficiency in a wide range of nursing skills, including medication administration, wound care, and respiratory support. This experience strengthened my confidence in clinical decision-making, infection control, and multidisciplinary teamwork. I also completed a bedside case study that deepened my clinical understanding. Ward 11 (Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Ward) | 1 month Geriatric Posting In my community hospital posting, I got first-hand experience into what it was like to be a nurse. My first experiences in assisting care for patients such as ambulation, transferring and monitoring vitals were an eye-opening experience for me and deepened my curiosity into different patient conditions. I gained practical experience in assisting with daily living activities and supporting mobility and recovery plans. This posting deepened my understanding of holistic, person-centred care and the importance of patience, communication, and continuity in the recovery process.
