Over the past 15 years my role evolved from hands-on engineering into a broader position at the intersection of R&D strategy, innovation delivery, and organizational representation. I operate as a technical translator between customer needs, internal experts, and external partners—turning complex sensing/optics challenges into feasible development trajectories, proposals, and demonstrators. What I do Innovation & R&D program support: shape early-stage concepts, define development routes, clarify requirements and feasibility, and help teams move from idea → prototype → validation. Subsidies & grants: identify relevant funding opportunities, structure project proposals, coordinate inputs across stakeholders, and help position projects for approval. Customer & stakeholder liaison: translate application context into actionable technical direction; align expectations across engineering, operations, and management. Mentoring & talent development: coach interns and young professionals; support structured learning and knowledge transfer across projects. Chairman of the Works Council: lead consultation processes, represent employee interests, and contribute to sustainable decision-making and internal governance. Domain context Sensors and opto-mechatronic systems for demanding environments (e.g., vacuum, ultra-clean, high pressure, temperature extremes, reactive media), where reliability, predictability, and manufacturability matter.
The idea behind Solar Fiber is a flexible photovoltaic fiber that converts sunlight energy into electrical energy. We aim to develop this as a yarn that can be worked into all sorts of fabrics. This “smart material” will be able to be used in all sorts of applications where textiles are currently used, but with the added advantage of being able to produce an electrical current. Started in May 2012, our motivation is our shared passion for sustainability through innovation. We believe that our idea for a flexible, fiber-based photovoltaic textile could make a difference to the world. Ideas and inventions like this shouldn’t remain on the shelf at research institutes, but should be used in everyday life. We’re trying to make that happen by building easily-understood prototypes and examples of applications for our idea, instead of protecting it with patents.
