Quentin M. Anstee PhD, FRCP is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University and holds the Ruth & Lionel Jacobson Chair of Personalised Medicine. A practising clinician, he is also an Honorary Consultant Hepatologist in the Liver Unit at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. His translational research has extended from the bench to the bedside with particular focus on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of Metabolic-dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), formerly called Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). This common liver condition is strongly associated with obesity, diabetes and other features of the metabolic syndrome. He leads a discovery-science research group at the Translational & Clinical Research Institute and is actively involved in ongoing clinical trials of new therapies and biomarkers for fatty liver disease and hepatic fibrosis. He has co-ordinated a number of major EU-funded research consortia including the H2020 funded EPoS (Elucidating Pathways of Steatohepatitis) consortium; and the IMI2 funded LITMUS (Liver Investigation: Testing Marker Utility in Steatohepatitis) consortium.
