Hi! My name is Dr. Jessica Liu and I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Science at California State University, Long Beach. I completed my postdoctoral research fellowship at the REACH Lab at Stanford University in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Health, and am a graduate of the Population Health Sciences PhD program at Harvard University. My research focuses on adolescent health, substance use prevention, and school-based interventions. I utilize mixed-methods community-engaged research to develop and implement more equitable interventions to reduce disparities in substance use outcomes among adolescent and young adults. My work has also been cited to support local and state-wide tobacco control policies. As a first-generation college student myself, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring first-generation and underrepresented students in STEM pursue higher education and research careers. Fun fact – my passion for teaching even extends to fitness, as I am a certified spin, yoga, and group fitness instructor!
