Prof Bob Tait

Professor at University of Cape Town

City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

About

Field: Mechanics of Solids Qualification: BSc PhD Cape Town Research Interests Prof. Tait's research and application interests are in the field of fracture mechanics and fatigue, for a range of materials including, not only steels, aluminiums and alloys, but also crack and micro damage development in brittle non metallic materials. He has an active research interest in Non Destructive Testing (NDT) as well as residual stress and its measurement. He has close ties with industry, in the application of fracture mechanics to industrial problems, with particular emphasis on fracture toughness testing, fitness for purpose engineering critical assessments, failure analyses, fatigue life prediction, residual stress evaluation (and its relief) and NDT. He is co-author, with Dr G G Garrett, of the book "Fracture and Fracture Mechanics - Case Studies", published by Pergamon, and is on the editorial board of the International Journal Engineering Failure Analysis. He is the author of over 70 papers in international journals and conference proceedings.
