I’m a writer and strategic communicator, and I help working people build power through storytelling. In my current role as a Press Secretary at the AFL-CIO, I’m responsible for our press work and message development on energy policy, technology and AI, health and safety, and CEO/worker pay inequality. I have five years of experience conducting strategic communications for think tanks, campaigns, advocacy organizations, and labor unions. I deliver keen attention to detail, a deep understanding of historical and economic trends, and a relentless focus on how working people think about and are impacted by public policy.
Led message development and comms on worker-centric AI agenda, securing coverage in the Washington Post, The Verge, Axios, Politico, and Punchbowl. Led comms on CEO/worker pay inequality, securing TV coverage on CNN and print coverage in the Guardian, Politico, and Fast Company. Secured earned media around worker health and safety, including coverage in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Politico, WIRED, and the Guardian. Staffed press events in Las Vegas, Bangor, ME, and Boston, securing local TV, radio, and print coverage.
Led earned media strategy for national tour calling for good energy jobs, cleaning up pollution, improving infrastructure and schools, and eradicating health disparities based on identity and where people live. Conducted rapid response around Hawaii wildfires, securing dozens of broadcast clips on national and local TV. Managed a Press Associate and led press team.
Executed strategic communications for unions and labor groups. Managed comms for victorious ballot campaign to expand the rights of gig workers, securing over 510 positive news clips in 5 months. For campaign social media accounts, grew Facebook followers by 101.7% and Twitter followers by 156% in 5 months. Media trained workers, union leaders, elected officials, and activists.
Conducted research, interviews, script writing, and social media distribution of story on a strike at Columbia University, which earned over 200k views. Drafted op-eds, press releases, articles, scripts, storyboards, and email campaigns.
Wrote policy memos, briefs, and op-eds analyzing public opinion data on topics including student debt forgiveness, industrial policy, curtailing corporate power, and safeguarding workers’ rights. Wrote blog posts bylined by Majority Leader Schumer, Senator Warren, Chair Jayapal, and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. Crafted and tested persuasive political and policy messaging on healthcare, education, labor, climate, and justice.
