My role is to incubate the Magic Bus India programme in other corners of the world. We plan to take the core methodology that has been proven to work in India, to other countries where under privileged children and youth may benefit from it. We will set up new country chapters from scratch from registration all the way to having full fledged operations in these countries.
I joined Magic Bus in October 2009 as Chief Operating Officer responsible for taking the Sport for Development programme in Mumbai across the country. I was responsible for conceptualizing a new scalable and replicable model which eventually became the programme that went to scale. In June 2013 I was elevated to the position of the CEO. My overall mandate was to steer the organisation to enable it to reach a million children across the country by 2020. Under my leadership the Magic Bus programme reached 22 states with a staff strength of about 1500 reaching out to roughly 400,000 children and youth. I developed innovative models for programme implementation coupled with appropriate partnerships at Govt, NGO and Corporate levels. Broad areas of my work included: • Development and implement the entire strategy to operationalise the roll out of expansion of Magic Bus programmes. • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to the senior team • Set the tone for building appropriate culture in the organization and lead from front in this regard • Work closely with Founder and the Board of Directors across countries to realise the Vision and Mission of Magic Bus. • Representing Magic Bus at appropriate forums nationally and internationally • Ensure fundraising teams both in India and abroad function optimally as per the organisational philosophy and targets. • Ensure Magic Bus meets all statutory and legal requirements as prescribed by the law of the land • Liaison with govt. at Central and State levels in India to position Magic Bus as a strong national player • Oversee HR activities including major hires and employee welfare • Supervising the financial health of the organization. • Setting up policies, office procedures etc. to manage the programme and support functions. • Work closely with corporate partners and create new ones both in India and abroad. • Managing healthy donor relations with numerous corporates, Govts., bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies.
I was responsible for the successful implementation of PSI’s programs nationally. I provided strategic directions across health issues that PSI deals with – Reproductive and Child Health, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and social marketing of products and services. I was specifically leading a $78 million five-year maternal health programme called the Women’s Health Project implemented across several locations of India. The programme aimed to promote long term contraceptive methods like IUDs, Medical Abortions and prevention of Post-Partum Haemorrhage amongst the economically vulnerable sections of the society.
