Bios: Born in the Netherlands in 1971, in 1975 moved to the United Kingdom for a brief stay. Moved to Germany in 1976, did abitur in 1991, moved in that same year to the Netherlands to study international Law in Groningen. Worked for several years in Amsterdam, finally moved to current residence in Spain in 2000. International lawyer with more than 23 years' experience, the last 20 of which spent advising in the renewable energy sector in Spain. After more than 7 years defending the interests of thousands of renewable energy producers against the cutbacks introduced by successive national governments, became an opinion leader in the sector, participating in the public debate via blog "Bruselas, Luxemburgo o Madrid" on energíasrenovables.com, the blog "La energía como Derecho" ("Energy as a Right") published in 20minutos.com, and writing as a member of the Club of Experts for energynews.com and movilidadeléctrica.com (the latter being a the leading Spanish institution for the development of the electric car). Publish regularly on the websites of Fundación Renovables ('Renewables Foundation'), El Periódico de la Energía ('The Energy Newspaper') and other publications. Regular speaker in events and conferences organized by APPA, UNEF, AEDIVE, Secartys, the Energy Efficiency Cluster of Catalonia, and the Spanish Hydrogen Asociation. He has defended and promoted petitions regarding self-consumption and the payment system for renewable energies before the Petitions Commission at the European Parliament. Has represented APPA and PX1NME in national and international tribunals on a Pro Bono basis. Member of the board of the section of International and European Law of the Barcelona Bar Asociation since 2017, and external unversity teacher at the CITCE-UPC. His firm was awarded the Eurosolar Prize in 2015 for its untiring defense of renewable energies. Piet Holtrop founded EquanimityEnergy in 2020, with the ambition to lead by example.

We are developing our pilot project featuring a combination of a Photovoltaic powerplant, including battery storage, to deliver on site charging services for electric vehicles 100% renewable in prosumer configuration, offering a participation model in investment and lending. We have completed the corporate structure in December 2021, with the EquanimityEnergy Foundation controlling EquanimityEnergy S.A. and its 100% subsidiaries EquanimityEnergy Generation S.L, and EquanimityEnergy to Go S.L.     My classes focus on regulatory aspects of EU law and Catalan and Spanish Law in the module "Energy planification and regulation", within the postgraduate course "Energy Economy" of the Masterprogramme "Smart Energy" of the CITCEA UPC, starting in October 2019. CITCEA-UPC is a Technical University of Catalonia (UPC BarcelonaTech) technology transfer center. CITCEA-UPC aims to work directly with companies to assist them in their challenges and offer technical solutions, analysis, simulations and functional prototypes able to be industrialized. This close collaboration with companies and a wide range of industries have made possible CITCEA-UPC to become a reference center in technology transfer. Since 2001 CITCEA-UPC is part of TECNIO network. TECNIO is the stamp awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya, through ACCIÓ, to identify where you will find the most innovative technology, developers who offer it and facilitators involved in the process of transfer of technology and knowledge. In 2009 CITCEA-UPC was officially recognized by AGAUR (Agency for Management of University and Research of Catalonia) as a consolidated research group. CITCEA-UPC know-how includes power electronics, digital control, simulations and all types of applications requiring energy control and/or movement: Electricity, control electronics, power electronics, industrial communications and digital control with processors in several applications which come from power systems, automation and prototyping until renewable and efficient energies and electrical grids. Based on the acquired experiences in Mechatronics and Enertronics in close contact with industry and organizations, CITCEA-UPC has its own training program for professionals and offers the Master in Mechatronics and Master in Enertronics, both supported by the Foundation UPC, and professional courses in energy, power electronics, automation and mechatronics fields.

    Since the Electricity Sector Law reform of 2013-2014 defended pro bono the legal interests of APPA before the Supreme Court of Spain, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and the European Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg (Case C-112/18) in an uncessant mission to rectify past regulatory errors and honor legal certainty. I could not do this without the support of my appreciated colleagues at our Firm, the members of the legal working group of APPA, and the always strong standing staff of APPA.
