“How to sell a broom to a banker.” If I had to write a book, that would be the title. Sales is about solving problems. More than moving a record new number of product units (although I have a worldwide record in this space too!), it’s about carefully listening to what people say to analyze a situation, identify problems and find solutions. Connecting the dots isn’t always easy. People are often too close to the problem to see it objectively. Also, the majority of people in fintech today have deep knowledge in one area, but don’t always understand the full payments ecosystem. And even if there’s a clear solution, how do you take a leap of faith into a game-changing new direction, rather than sticking with the tried and tested mainstream? I am a recognized authority on banking and payments technology. My expertise spans the entire payments industry, with a special focus on mobile and prepaid banking, cyber security and digital identity, and the emerging payments business models that aim to transform economies. I was also fundamental in establishing Emerging Payments Exchange Southern Africa, which I chaired. I have more than 20 years’ experience in senior management at both start-ups and larger organizations. Currently, as the head of global business development (The Sales Guy), my roles include sales, marketing and training. My strengths lie in being not only a connector of people, but also of ideas. I love meeting new people. And I want to know more about everything!
