I have spent over 45 years in the Polymer and Plastics industry, with particular expertise in polypropylene. I have authored 13 US patents as well as numerous foreign patents. Several of these inventions have led to entirely new polypropylene products and businesses. Since starting this consulting business in 2014, I have worked with large multinational clients to help them develop new products and improve existing products, and I have solved many technical problems. I have also presented short courses to both technical and business people at these clients. I have also served as an Expert Witness in cases involving Polypropylene Medical Applications. I am a past president of the Southern Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and a former board member of the Thermoforming Division of the SPE. Specialties: Polyolefin technology and product development. Polypropylene structure-property relationships.
I am the founder and President of Jacoby Polymer Consulting, established in 2014 and based in Roswell, Georgia. I have over 45 years of experience in the polymer and plastics industry, particularly in polypropylene. I hold 13 U.S. patents and several international patents, many of which have led to innovative polypropylene products and businesses. I have worked extensively on developing and commercializing advanced materials, including beta nucleation technology used in various applications such as breathable films , improved impact-strength molded parts, and down-weighted polypropylene packaging. Before founding my consulting firm, I held senior positions at BP Amoco and Mayzo, Inc., where I managed technical developments involving polymers, additives, and stabilizers. My consulting services focus on polypropylene product development, technical problem-solving, and training for multinational clients. Additionally, I offer specialized short courses on polypropylene technology. I consult in all areas of polypropylene technology including: 1. Structure/property relationships 2. Additives, Modifiers, and fillers 3. Testing and evaluation 4. Processing performance 5. New Business Development. 6. Short courses on Polypropylene Technology Throughout my career I have utilized my knowledge of polymer additives and structure/property relationships to improve and broaden the properties of polypropylene, and to also improve processing and long-term stability. I can help you in selecting additive packages to: 1. Improve short and long term thermal stability and UV stability 2. Improve stiffness, impact, and other physical properties through the use of nucleating agents and impact modifiers 3. Use coupling agents and compatibilizers to improve the properties of multi-phase systems and composites.
I was in charge of all technical issues associated with the polymer additives and stabilizers sold by Mayzo. These additives include thermal and processing stabilizers, UV stabilizers (HALS and UV absorbers), optical brighteners, and polyolefin modifiers such as crystal nucleating agents and masterbatches. I also started an entirely new business for Mayzo based on Beta Nucleation technology
Senior Product Development Chemist in Polypropylene Business Unit. Responsible for formulating polypropylene additive packages, new product development, and addressing customer technical issues. I was awarded 13 US patents and several International patents. I also started a proprietary new business involving the production of breathable, waterproof microporous polypropylene films.
