Promoted in Sept. 2016 and reporting into the VP HR EMEA Groups, I managed HR for one of the 3 legacy Medtronic Businesses, the Restorative Therapies Group (RTG). RTG comprises various businesses in the field of Spine, Pain and Brain Therapies and delivers 1.2 bn USD turnover with approx. 1200 employees in its commercial organization in EMEA. As a member of the EMEA leadership team, I supported the VP RTG and his direct reports in all HR related topics and represented the Group HR needs within HR Medtronic. Acting as an HR broker I closely collaborated within the MDT HR Delivery model with its CoE experts and country HR contacts, to provide the full range of HR services. Special attention lied on HR strategy adaptation and implementation, organisational design, coaching, senior recruitment as well as talent and performance management. With an important ‘second hat’, I was leading and coordinating the Swiss HR policies for MDT CH and representing the company in the MDT CH pension fund board of trustees. As I had handled all pension fund topics throughout my time with Covidien, it was nice to continue to help improve the 2nd pillar for all Swiss employees of MDT. Major achievement in this role is the implementation of a new organizational structure within the group, where I handled all HR aspects across the region. I drove and managed senior leader assessments, review of roles, responsibilities, capabilities and competences as well as internal communication and stakeholder management. The overall project resulted in RTG EMEA returning to sustainable growth for the last 2 fiscal years.
With the acquisition of Covidien by Medtronic, functions were integrated and combined. The responsibility for daily operations in HR moved to the Country HR teams within Medtronic. HR business partnering remained with a small team of Senior HR professionals for the entire Minimally Invasive Therapies Group across the EMEA region. Being part of this team, I partnered with the Vice Presidents of 2 Business Units (Advanced Surgical Technologies AST Europe with 450 employess and Early Technologies ET EMEA with 90 employees) and 2 functions (Medical Affairs EMEA with 40 employees and Commercial Excellence EMEA with 130 employees) for the full HR portfolio. Highlights among others include the successful integration of Covidien in Medtronic, where I contributed in various ways, covering cultural as well as operational aspects within my area of responsibility as well as the creation of a dedicated Medical Affairs organization for EMEA where I supported the VP Medical Affairs in setting the organizational structure and required roles as well as identifying, selecting and on-boarding the experts in market access, healthcare policy and reimbursement.
