Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland
I am a sanitation consultant, trainer and researcher, with environmental engineering and humanities background. In the course of years, I specialised in planning non-sewered and decentralised sanitation systems in low- and middle-income contexts, urban and rural, with an approach that falls today under the umbrella of citywide inclusive sanitation (#CWIS). My diverse interests keep me open for broader environmental challenges, such as sustainable agriculture, and balancing nature conservation with local economy and cultural heritage. I thrive on the field and am passionate about understanding local contexts and cultures. I am interested in what makes sanitation systems work in a specific context, understanding stakeholders’ needs & constraints and the governance requirements for sustainable services. I enjoy delivering advisory services, develop connections and exchange with colleagues active on the ground, through assessments, evaluation or capacity development. My experience in multiple countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, with multiple stakeholders from users, utilities, NGOs, academia to large donor agencies, gave me deep insights in the functioning of the sector. I strongly believe in transdisciplinarity and the power of capacity development and digital learning. Next to my work on the ground, I am engaged in teaching, knowledge dissemination and development of online courses, from concept to post-production. I also advocate and engage in the development of materials in French language, which remain all too rare. Sanitation for all also means access to knowledge for all!
