I bring leadership, support and advice to provide the bridge between consumers, marketing, development and manufacturing to help companies improve business performance through the effective use of innovation strategies, industrial design and design thinking. I’m a non-executive director and ‘hands on’ consultant for Design Momentum Limited, a recently formed industrial design consultancy founded by my highly creative colleague and business partner of 23 years, Morag Hutcheon. DM offers clients a modern industrial design service; helping reposition businesses, creating new products and services and giving them the confidence to invest in ‘new’. This is applied to brands, products, processes and services. The consumer is at the heart of all we do and anticipating their future needs is our focus. Labelled as ‘design thinking’, I’ve been an advocate and practitioner using the principles of industrial design for more than two decades; observing, challenging, synthesising, creating, changing, implementing. ‘New’ and ‘change’ can be frightening topics to deal with, so experience counts! I’m a Director of Oomph Ventures, a Cambridge UK start up delivering the first mobile rapid EV charging system. Prototype under test, Oomph is looking to change the fuel filling paradigm and accelerate the world of convenience by delivering EV charge to your door. A graduate of the School of Industrial Design (Engineering) at the Royal College of Art, I'm national director of BIDA (British Industrial Design Association) and Visiting Professor of New Product Design at Middlesex University. I continue to maintain a close relationship with education and recently contributed to the Encyclopaedia of Design, published by Bloomsbury. I regularly speak on the changing role of industrial design and its impact on our daily lives. In the next decade Industrial Design will continue to shift from being a ‘nice to have’ service to being a key strategic tool in shaping the future.
