Prepare patients for collection procedures associated with laboratory samples. (Assess the patient prior to blood collection) Collect routine skin puncture and venous specimens for testing as required. Correctly and positively identify the patient. Collect the sample taking patient comfort and safety into consideration. Correctly label the samples with patient surname and initials. Perform POCT. Perform front-office duties. Print and distribute lab requisitions and reports. Demonstrate courtesy in all patient encounters. Respect privacy and confidentiality and maintain patient confidentiality. Promote good relations with patients and hospital personnel. Perform appropriate laboratory computer operations and keep accurate records. Perform Pre-Lab duties in laboratory.
Receive specimens and request forms. Insure accurate completion of patient details on request forms, clearly indicating all essential patient information, account details and tests required. Logging of Request form on LIS. Separation of samples and running of tests on automated analysers. Contact with Pathologist and Doctor with abnormal results before verification and releasing of results. Handling INR and dosage patients. Perform morphology and differential count on blood smears, malaria identification and quantification by microscopy. Deliver patient reports to Hospital wards and Doctor’s rooms within reasonable turn-around time. Handling and monitoring of reagents and consumables – usage, ordering, receiving and storage. General administration and Quality control. Basic time keeping and housekeeping. General Client Services.

Make cell suspensions and do ABO, Rh, indirect and direct coombs. Perform cross match. When required do antibody investigation. Analyse and verifying of results. Issuing of compatible blood, plasma and/or platelets. Liaise with Doctors, Hospital & Ambulance personnel with any abnormalities with cross match.
