Historian of Science at the Austrian Academy of Sciences

Vienna, Vienna, Austria

About

My research focuses on the history of science, especially the history of geography, cartography and spatial research in the 19th and 20th centuries. I am particularly interested in science and politics, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary networking, and research practices. Currently, I am researching scientific geography and cartography in Berlin and Vienna from 1900 to 1950, with a particular focus on “voelkisch”-oriented geography, as well as cartography in Austria and Germany in political contexts, such as cartography during National Socialism, cartography and the Holocaust, and cartography and environmental catastrophes in the early and late modern period. These projects were/are supported by the Austrian Science Fund FWF, the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria, the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna MA 7 and the Secret State Archives Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation Berlin.
