Singapore
I have lived and worked in more than twenty countries across the Middle East, Ex-Soviet bloc, Africa, Europe, Asia and the United States. Experiencing different cultures and people got me thinking about how we make decisions, how we relate to one another, how we choose to live the ways we do, and how we form our values. Then I figured that all of these has its roots in our human psychology. And if we are but our psychology, then the more we get a grasp of it, the richer we are for it. Hence, I commit myself to academic research and study in psychology. I learnt that getting a grasp of our psychology is, in and of itself, a learned ability. Our evolved and constructed self-schema lends itself to the makeup of our self and identity – our phobias, preferences, bias, and prejudices, our beliefs, our attitudes, our motivations (or lack thereof). I want to help people be cognizant of their psychology, how it works in their lives, and how they in turn work with it, so that they can work on their better version. I want to do so ontologically and epistemologically, and in so doing, to build from the ground up tools for learning psychology. But such a tool is only as good as its evidence-based psychology within it, its curriculum design and delivery, its pedagogy and andragogy, and its learning sciences underpinning it. Hence, I also commit myself to academic research and study in education.
