With more than 20 years of global experience, I have helped leading businesses and nonprofits navigate complex challenges, protect reputations, and deliver results that meet rising societal expectations. I have led high-profile advocacy, branding, issues management, and media initiatives at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the LEGO Foundation, successfully repositioning organizations and forging innovative partnerships. My work has shaped policy dialogues with European Institutions, enhanced global sustainability frameworks, and contributed to securing top ESG rankings for companies such as Dow Inc. I am known for transforming complexity into opportunity through strategic foresight and the full spectrum of communications and government affairs tools — from public affairs and issues management to digital, media, and executive positioning. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) the global independent standard setter for sustainability reporting that helps businesses and other organisations understand and take responsibility for their impacts; 110 staff, based in the Netherlands. Member of the executive team and responsible for 10 FTE’s. Key achievements include: * Developed a multi-year government affairs outreach strategy and re-aligned the government affairs team with clear objectives to drive the uptake of the GRI Standards. * Lead the engagement with the European Parliament around the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and established GRI as co-developer of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards. Managed the relation and negotiated MoUs with EFRAG and the IFRS Foundation * Developed collaborative relations with UN agencies and the OECD * Overhauled the global communication strategy to address the disconnect between the societal demands for more transparency and the call from the financial and private sectors for less reporting requirements. Increased use of earned and social media to reclaim GRI’s position as the leading organisation for sustainability reporting. * Built an up-to-date, responsive website at the heart of the communications efforts Rebranded GRI. GRI had become undistinguishable and its share of voice in the debate was limited. * Formalised internal communications to help ensure a committed and engaged work force Created a cohesive communications team with the skills and confidence to deliver on the strategy.
