Used to managing high-profile pressured environments with experience of leading engineering personnel, as well as civilian contractors; setting strategic targets and delivering tactical success; particularly regarding 'change' initiatives in 'Joint' environments. An excellent communicator, with a strong sense of humour and purpose, who develops and motivates others; believing that teamwork and considered leadership are the keys to success. Aircraft Engineer and Senior Manager (Captain) in the Royal Navy CEng and FRAeS Specialties: Maritime aviation and through life support of associated systems. Deliverer of numerous large change programmes.
Building on the significant success of commanding the Joint Wildcat Project Support Office (JWPSO), the Maritime Aviation Programme Support Office (MAvPSO) proactively managed the coherent delivery of the Royal Navy's major aviation programmes in fulfilment of Lord Levine’s 2010 Defence Reform. As Programme Director I was directly accountable to the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for an extensive portfolio comprising the Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme (MCSP), Merlin Life Sustainment Programme (MLSP) and the Royal Navy / Arm Air Corp Wildcat Programme, with a combined value in excess of £3Bn. As the MAvPSO Team Leader, I also managed a specialised team of Service and civilian project and programme managers in the delivery of the Royal Navy’s aviation change programme sub-portfolio through providing MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) compliant Programme Office functions (Governance and Control, Guidance and Support) across multiple Stakeholders to ensure that the programmes were delivered to strict time, cost and performance targets with risks actively managed and outcomes and benefits realised. I chaired Project Boards and presented programme achievement to Senior Leadership within Navy and Army Aviation Front Line Commands and to the MoD at 3-star level. Cited as the exemplar within Defence. the MAvPSO won achievement awards and influenced burgeoning business support models within two other Service Headquarters. Qualified in MSP and MoR (Management of Risk), I left the Royal Navy in 2015 aged 55 on completion of 38 years active Service.
