Peter Shelford was Country Managing Partner for DLA Piper Thailand from 2006 to 2021. He was a Senior Consultant with the firm until April 2024. He is now an independent consultant and arbitrator. Peter is experienced in all aspects of litigation and international arbitration, with particular emphasis on insurance, reinsurance and construction. He has a deep understanding and knowledge of all aspects of the insurance business with an emphasis on regulatory and compliance, licensing, business operations and all types of insurance claims. He also advises the insurance industry generally on their investment, business expansion and operations in Thailand and other ASEAN countries. As a senior leader of the insurance sector, Peter took a significant role in developing DLA Piper's insurance practices in Thailand and in Asia. He was for some years Co-Head of the firm's Insurance Sector in Asia. Peter is widely recognised as one of the leading lawyers for insurance in Asia. Peter has also advised clients on anti-corruption, fraud, investigation, cyber security, government and regulatory matters. He has been involved in various other litigation matters, including construction, product liability, banking, personal injury, shareholder disputes, employment and defamation. He has substantial experience of English, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thai arbitration procedures and is particularly experienced with LMAA, ICC, HKIAC, SIAC and TAI arbitrations. He now acts primarily as an arbitrator and is a panel member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration and the Thai Arbitration Centre. He is a fellow of the Singapore Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
