I've always been a fairly clear thinker with an aptitude for making things work. So engineering seemed the obvious path for me. But that all changed when IBM released the first PC in the mid 1980s and Lotus 123 revolutionized the way businesses could do things. From that point I became hooked on IT and I've been hooked ever since. Doing IT well isn't easy, there are a great many factors to consider, there's also a lot of hype and mis-information, and there is a constant stream of new and sometimes exciting developments that can change the game. But the benefits of getting IT right can be substantial with the potential for a direct and profound effect on the enterprise bottom line. Equally, it can be expensive and frustrating for everyone if IT is not done well. No one can be a master of everything.
