Authored many reports for internal and external customers. Presented to FAA/NTSB and at conferences in related fields. Three patents granted for NDI technology applications. Currently Lead Engineer of Fracture Analysis and an Associate Technical Fellow at Boeing.
-Associate Technical Fellow - Fracture Analysis -Performs failure analysis and root cause determination on a variety of materials including structural metals, composites, plastics, glass/ceramics, and semiconductors/electrical components. -Uses wide ranging tools to characterize failures including optical microscopy, SEM/microprobe, metallography/cross sectioning, NDI and X-ray CT scans, chemical analysis, thermal analysis, XRF, precision measuring, surface roughness/condition, coating analysis, corrosion testing, and electrical properties. -Authors final reports and presentations for internal customers, suppliers, and government agencies including the FAA and NTSB. -Lead engineer and lab lead, coordinates work flow for engineers and technicians on the team and acts as a liaison for customers and management. -Lead the fracture analysis effort in response to multiple aircraft depressurization incidents. Extensive experience with aluminum cyclic loading fatigue. -Works emergent fleet issues from new aircraft programs affecting deliveries and safety. -Communicates results effectively to customers ranging from program teams, airline operators, suppliers, and government. -Works with airline customers, nondestructive inspection, maintenance providers, suppliers and sub tiers to trace the root cause of material or processing problems and understand corrective actions and possible escapement issues resulting from investigations. -Develops techniques to characterize failures and data not previously targeted such as manufacturing anomalies and effects on fatigue cracks in components. -Improves upon existing methods to increase efficiency and throughput of investigations including improved methods for accurately measuring and disassembling large quantities of structural assemblies. -Manages a materials characterization laboratory, coordinating staff workloads, equipment, and regulations. -Oversees laboratory testing of new material qualification and design programs.
-Developed new and leveraged existing nondestructive evaluation technologies for both internal and external/military customers. -Extensive collaboration with outside partners including private business and U.S. military to deliver products. -Applied knowledge of NDE methods to various materials and inspection schemes. -Program management, budget and scheduling of projects, technology developments, and customer commitments. -Created invention disclosures for new technologies and applications and received multiple patents. -Worked with software development teams to customize products for customers. -Designed and fabricated testing standards for customer specific applications. -Performed in-situ evaluations of functional tests. -Coordinated prototype work with internal and external resources and demonstrated systems/methods developed to customers.
-Performed drawing review for new and updated airplane models evaluating materials, finishes, bearings/fasteners, and geometry. -Evaluated 3-D models of parts for production. -Worked with designers to ensure proper material selection while minimizing cost and simplifying the manufacturing process. -Worked with suppliers to ensure parts were delivered on time, meet specifications, and complied with federal regulations. -Updated and improved existing designs and integrated with new parts/platforms. -Evaluated critical designs decisions using engineering judgment and fleet experience.
