Peter Bloomfield is Director of grants and research at Moorfields Eye Charity https://moorfieldseyecharity.org.uk/. @psbloom.bsky.social Peter has previously worked in basic and clinical settings on a range of neuroscientific and ophthalmic research topics, including the mechanisms of pain, cortical plasticity and learning, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia and pharmacology of the central nervous system. He has used a range of technologies and techniques in his research from multimodal imaging (PET fMRI, MRI), to behavioural and pharmacological experiments, as well as electrophysiology, microscopy and genetics. He has worked as a scientific consultant, medical consultant, and product consultant in the tech industry on a range of topics. He has helped develop motion detection based assessment of neurological disorders and has also worked with engineers and programmers on a project to develop human-computer interfaces for nerve stimulation in virtual reality environments. More recently Peter has worked with Startups, industry and the government on artificial intelligence (AI), data and digital infrastructure and is passionate about the use of tech for conservation and sustainability. He worked on the award winning AI startup programme Machine Intelligence Garage (migarage.ai). Before the Macular Society Peter was Head of Policy and Research at Future Care Capital exploring how data, technology and innovation can improve health and social care provision.
