The major goal of the research group „Human Genomics“ is to identify the molecular (genetic) basis of selected human diseases, using forefront molecular genetic and omics-technologies and analysis methods. The group’s expertise bundles a profound understanding of the different research strategies that are needed to identify genetic factors for both monogenic and genetically complex phenotypes, in particular linkage studies, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and Quantitative Trait Loci analysis. The employed strategies make use of recent technologies such as microarrays (DNA, RNA, methylation) and next-/third generation sequencing, in combination with bioinformatic/statistical analysis and interpretation of the resulting data.
