Analyzed, reviewed and evaluated leases/loans and bond /bond refunding transactions in order to prepare written opinions and recommendations regarding their suitability for Pinnacle’s portfolio evaluating the credit applicant, credit structure, overall economic climate, sector trends, and preparing historical and projected financial spreadsheet data. Findings and recommendations were clearly communicated through written reports and verbal and electronic communications. Worked closely with Pinnacle officers/management to determine ongoing priorities for credits under analysis. Made modifications to priorities as needed with the input of the Senior Credit Officer. Maintained an up to date credit request pipeline report which detailed the status of all loans under analysis. Identifed key risk factors associated with each credit request and determined if those factors were mitigated. Assisted in the training and development of credit analysts and officer trainees.
Develop solutions to complex financial analysis projects or functions. Perform a variety of highly complex research and studies on topics that may include rates of return, working capital, investments, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, corporate finance, cash management, financial targets and financial and expense comparisons. Prepare highly complex reports of findings and recommendations to Management, routinely interfacing with Senior Management and occasionally with Officers.
Performed credit reviews on counterparties for APS’s Marketing and Trading (“M&T”), Treasury, Supply Chain Management, Renewables, Commercial Credit, and Transmission groups. Presented financial analysis findings and/or recommendations to teams/management. Developed financial modeling and methodology for credit risk assessment of financial institutions and non-utilities. Contributed to the continuous improvement of credit risk management procedures and guidelines. Daily monitored M&T top exposures and cash collateral. Periodically reviewed and monitored M&T, Supply Chain Management, Renewables, and Transmission guarantees and letters of credit for completeness and accuracy.
Testified before the Arizona Corporation Commission (“ACC”) as an expert witness on rate of return, rate base, revenue requirement, and financing matters. Lead cross-sectional teams (legal, engineering, consumer services and compliance) on rate case and financing applications for authority to issue debt up to $2.1 billion. Presented recommended opinion and orders before the ACC. Designed equity accumulation plans for highly-leveraged utilities. Provided direction to junior analysts and cross-training to senior analyst in other sections. Researched public utility industry trends on cost of capital, capitalization and regulatory matters.
