As a Creative Director specializing in Sonic Branding and UX Sound Design, I design and lead the development of functional sound systems for physical products. My work is guided by a single conviction: when sound is designed with intention, people stop having to think about the machine โ and can focus on what actually matters. โ Sound is not decoration. It is a core interface layer โ as critical as form, interaction logic or materiality. Well-designed sound communicates system states, reduces cognitive load and guides behavior, particularly where visual interfaces reach their limits. The measure of good sonic design is not whether people notice it. It is whether they stop needing to. โ My professional background is rooted in the automotive industry, where I led sound design for prototype vehicles and accompanied concepts from early research through to series production. Working under real constraints alongside engineering, UX, HMI, brand and production teams shaped a fundamental conviction: sound decisions must be robust, scalable and implementable โ not just convincing in a presentation room. โ Over time, this perspective expanded into household products and emerging robotic systems, where the same principle applies with even greater urgency. Fewer visual cues. Higher stakes. A greater need for sound that earns trust quietly, rather than demanding attention loudly. โ I operate between design, engineering and business โ translating abstract brand values and functional requirements into clear, implementable sound decisions. I value clarity over spectacle, systems over isolated moments, and solutions that hold up where it counts. โ If you are working on products where sound is critical to user experience, system feedback or perceived quality, I am always open to a thoughtful conversation. ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ BMW ยท BMW i ยท MINI ยท Rolls-Royce ยท Gaggenau ยท Max Planck Institute ยท European Commission โ www.paul-louis.design or message me
Sound shapes how people experience, trust, and remember a product โ before they consciously notice it. I work with product teams, founders, and brand leaders who understand that sound is not a finishing touch. It is a design decision that runs through the entire product experience โ from the first interaction to the last. My work sits at the intersection of product sound design, UX methodology, and creative direction. I bring both the strategic thinking and the hands-on craft โ which means I can work at board level on a sound strategy and deliver the sounds that execute it. Industries I work in: Automotive ยท Robotics & Autonomous Systems ยท Consumer Brands ยท Kitchen Appliances ยท App & Software ยท Logistics What I bring to a project: Product Sound Design โ intentional sound architecture for every interaction a user has with a product. AVAS, interior EV sound, HMI chimes, UI feedback, alert hierarchies. Audio Strategy & Creative Direction โ defining what a product or brand should sound like, why, and how that translates across every touchpoint. UX Sound Design โ applying user research, interaction design, and sound psychology to create experiences that feel right โ not just sound good. Sound Branding โ building sonic identities that are consistent, ownable, and recognisable across markets and product lines. Consultancy โ advising product teams and leadership on where sound creates competitive advantage, reduces adoption friction, or presents regulatory risk. The automotive industry spent decades building the discipline of product sound design โ from legally mandated pedestrian alerts to sign-off hierarchies that treat a 400ms chime as a strategic decision. That blueprint now applies directly to robotics, consumer products, and any technology entering shared human spaces. I bring that blueprint โ and the experience to apply it. If you're building something that makes sound, let's talk about what that sound is doing for your product.
Biomimetic Sound Algorithm for Future Urban Environments Research-driven project focused on the development of a biomimetic sound system inspired by natural biophony. The work spans the full IoT and experience stack โ from connected physical objects and custom hardware to sensor-based data processing, algorithmic sound behavior and real-time sound synthesis. The project explores how tightly integrated hardware, object and sound algorithm design can shape functional, adaptive acoustic systems and contribute to the sonic experience of future urban environments.
