Senior financial executive with over 35 years of experience in financial planning and reporting, accounting policy, M&A planning and integration, strategic cost transformation, benefit plan investing, risk management and tax. Career reflects a demonstrated track record in leading successful large-scale transformation initiatives, optimizing financial management processes in complex, global business environments, and supporting M&A transactions across domestic and global markets.
Served as independent senior advisor for U.S. CTO Program advising Deloitte Tax staff and senior leadership while also helping CTOs and their finance organizations create value for their enterprises and communities. Advised on a broad range of issues including business model transformation, stakeholder management, succession planning, team development, client service and leadership.
Led a 450-person team responsible for ~$22B of annual taxes and over 345K tax filings worldwide. Provided tax advice on several M&A transactions including the tax-free spin-off of the WarnerMedia business to Discovery. Played a significant role in developing and advocating positions on legislative and regulatory tax matters including the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act resulting in a ~$20B P&L benefit.
Served as the CFO for AT&T Business Solutions & International (BS&I) business segments with annual revenues over $75B. Led all financial modeling and analysis to support key strategic and operational decisions as trusted financial advisor to the BS&I CEO. This included driving marketing strategies and cost reduction efforts to maintain margins as Business Solutions transitioned from legacy to ethernet-based communication services. Paul’s team also supported the successful launch of the Firstnet contract awarded to AT&T to build and manage a nationwide broadband network dedicated to first responders.
Led a 1,000-person team responsible for all aspects of the Controller’s function, including budgeting and planning, accounting, monitoring Sarbanes Oxley controls, and financial reporting. As Global Controller, he drove the development of a cost allocation system which supported profitability reporting across segment, product, and geographic lines to help drive key strategic and operational decisions. Paul was a key member of internal management committees including Investing, Capital, and Information Technology committees. In 2015, Paul was recognized by Dallas magazine as having the most innovative finance team among Dallas area public companies.
