About

My overarching goal is to empower people to get involved in making the world a better place through creative social change. I do this through research, teaching, and community engagement. My substantive areas of expertise include global and comparative environmental politics, public speaking, biodiversity conservation, institutional analysis, policy processes in developing countries, bicycle politics, and the development of new qualitative research methods. I have published three books, directed two films, and produced an educational videogame. I have received three teaching awards, including the International Studies Association's Deborah Gerner Innovative Teaching Award. My experience outside of academia includes my work as the founding director of policy and goverance at RARE Conservation and positions with the Natural Resources Defense Council, The World Bank research group, Conservation International, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, Pesticide Action Network, and Bendix Environmental Research.
