I am carrying out research on water usage efficiency in the food manufacturing sector. Relatively little attention has been paid to water use in the sustainable manufacturing field, yet climate change and structural changes in the global economy will make water increasingly important.
As Technical Expert in electronics manufacturing I was responsible for developing the business of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in this important area for UK industry. The MTC itself is a partnership between major UK manufacturers and academia, established to provide a pathway for the development of highly innovative ideas beyond the stage of proof of concept to implementation on the shop floor (TRLs 4-7). I brought to the role 16 years experience of development and exploitation of advanced technologies in electronics, MEMs and micro-biosystems.
