Patrick Masscheleyn is Senior Vice President, Research & Development, Global Product Stewardship [Safety – Sustainability - Regulatory – Technical Relations] for the Procter & Gamble Company. Procter & Gamble consumer products are used by over five billion people each day around the world. Consumer and Planetary Health are an integral part of P&G doing business. It is a privilege to lead P&G’s organization that is responsible for Global Product Stewardship. Patrick joined P&G in December 1992 as Environmental Scientist and has held positions of increasing responsibility within P&G since then. His assignments included human and environmental safety, regulatory and technical external relations responsibilities across the different P&G business units and in Corporate Functions. Patrick had the opportunity to work in Europe (Belgium, Germany, and United Kingdom) and at P&G’s Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, Unites States. In 2007, he became Director, Global Product Stewardship, R&D Corporate Functions. Between 2013 – end 2016, Patrick held the position of Global Product Stewardship Director for P&G’s global Beauty Care and Gillette/Braun business and was the R&D site leader for the Greater London Innovation Center. During his career at P&G, Patrick has represented P&G in several Industry Association Task Forces and Committees [including Health & Environmental Sciences Institute; European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals (ECETOC); Cosmetics Europe(CE); and the International Association for Soaps, Detergents, and Maintenance Products (AISE)] working collaboratively with governmental authorities on a wide variety of environmental, toxicological and regulatory topics related to the Consumer Goods Industry. He is currently on the Board ECETOC. Patrick was born in Belgium. He received Master Degrees in Bioscience-Engineering and in Environmental Sanitation Engineering from the University of Ghent, Belgium. He obtained a Ph.D. in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, USA. Prior to joining P&G, Patrick worked as Associate Professor in the Biogeochemistry Institute, LSU, and in the Laboratory for Applied Analytical, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Ghent. During his academic career he has published 30 peer reviewed articles in the area of environmental sciences, technology and chemistry.
