As a systems engineer at SIX I was responsible to operate and maintain the two major reverse proxy installations of the group. Based on the products Nevis Suite, Axway API Manager and HaProxy our team provided web application security services to the internet exposed business applications of SIX. My main achievements during these four years are the containerization of our API Manager installation, including the creation of our own Kubernetes Operator with the operator-sdk and taking part in a life-cycle project that migrated over 100 business applications from a legacy Nevis installation to a new state of the art setup. With my high interest in security topics I was able to coordinate internal and external audits for the team, as well as penetration tests.
After aquiring my EFZ at nine.ch I remained with the company for another one and a half years as Linux Operations Engineer. Our team was the single point of contact for all existing customers and oversaw a massive fleet of over 1500 managed servers. My daily work included configuring, supporting and monitoring a set of standard system service like Apache, Nginx, MySQL, Varnish and more on the customer systems while also ensuring availability of surrounding and underlying systems. A personal highlight was working abroad in a branch office in Canada for a quarter of a year.
As an Apprentice in System Engineering at the Swiss ISP nine.ch I was able to get insights into all key IT areas of the company. During the four years I had participated in NOC operations, application development with ruby on rails and commissioning and decommissioning of complete datacenter sites. Most of this time I spent in the systems engineering team, working on puppet modules and bash \& ruby scripts. Major projects were the migration of a script based vhost management tool into the puppet configuration management and performing distribution release upgrades of servers.
