Captain (NS) Pat Burke currently serves as Director of Military Prosecutions, Irish Defence Forces. Previously he served as Legal Adviser to GOC 1 Bde and to Flag Officer Commanding Naval Service. In addition to overseas service as a Legad with EUFOR in Bosnia and Chad and with the UN in Lebanon in he has held several appointments ashore and afloat within the Irish Navy, including Command at sea. He has completed maritime and international humanitarian law courses at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth, International Institute of Humanitarian Law, Sanremo, DIILS US Naval War College, Newport, Land Warfare Centre, Warminster, US Army JAG Corps, Virginia and the University of Liverpool. He has acted as Class Leader at the IIHL Sanremo, the Austrian Defence Academy and also lectured at the Turkish PfP Centre, Ankara. He retains a deep professional interest in maritime law and has lectured in the National Maritime College, Ireland and UCC.
Prior to becoming a Legal Officer, Pat served ashore and afloat in a number of different appointments within the Naval Service up to and including Command at sea.
